Privacy policy

How Saltwater Consulting collects, uses, and protects your information, written in plain language so you know exactly what to expect.

Effective October 27, 2026

The short version

  • We only collect what we need to respond to you, deliver our services, and run this website.
  • We never sell or rent your personal information.
  • Your Client Journey Scorecard answers stay in your own browser. They're never sent to us.
  • Anything you share during a project is kept confidential and used only for that project.
  • You can ask us to see, correct, or delete your information at any time.

Information we collect

Saltwater Consulting ("Saltwater," "we," "us," or "our") is an independent marketing consultancy based in Connecticut. This policy covers saltwaterconsulting.co and the services we provide through it.

Information you give us

When you fill out our contact form, book a service, or email us, we collect the details you choose to share, such as your name, email address, business name, website URL, and the content of your message. When you book and pay for a service, we also collect billing details. Payments are handled by our payment processor, [PAYMENT PROCESSOR], and we never see or store your full card number.

If you sign up for our email list, we collect your name and email address.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, ours automatically collects basic technical information when you visit, such as your browser type, device type, approximate location based on your IP address, the pages you view, and how you arrived at our site. This information helps us understand how the site is used and doesn't identify you by name.

Information that stays on your device

The Client Journey Scorecard saves your checkmarks in your own browser's local storage so you can come back and finish later. That information never leaves your device, and we can't see it. You can clear it at any time by selecting "Start over" on the scorecard or clearing your browser data.

How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Respond to your questions and recommend the right service
  • Schedule, deliver, and invoice the work you've booked
  • Send project updates, findings, and follow-up answers
  • Send our email newsletter, if you've opted in
  • Understand how visitors use our website so we can improve it
  • Keep our website secure and meet our legal and tax obligations

We don't use your information for automated decision-making or profiling, and we don't sell it, rent it, or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Who we share it with

We share personal information only with trusted service providers that help us run the business, and only as much as they need to do their job. These include:

  • Squarespace, which hosts our website and processes contact form submissions
  • [PAYMENT PROCESSOR], which processes payments
  • [EMAIL MARKETING PLATFORM], which sends our newsletter, if you've subscribed
  • Our email, file storage, and video recording tools, which we use to communicate with clients and deliver findings

Each provider is responsible for protecting your information under its own privacy policy. We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights, or as part of a business transfer, such as a merger or sale.

Cookies and analytics

Our website uses cookies, which are small files stored in your browser. Some are essential for the site to work, and others help us understand traffic through Squarespace Analytics [and Google Analytics]. These analytics tools show us trends, like which pages are most popular, rather than information about you personally.

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. The site will still work, though some features may not behave as expected. We don't use advertising cookies or retargeting pixels.

Client project data

During a project, you may give us view access to tools like Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Google Business Profile, or your website platform. We use that access only to complete your project. We don't change your settings or content unless you've asked us to.

Everything you share with us, including performance data, internal documents, and interview recordings, is treated as confidential. We don't publish client work, results, or testimonials without your written permission. Once your project is complete, you're welcome to remove our access at any time, and we recommend doing so.

How long we keep it

We keep inquiry emails and form submissions for up to two years so we can follow up and keep a record of our conversations. Client records, invoices, and project files are kept for up to seven years to meet tax and business recordkeeping requirements. Newsletter subscribers stay on our list until they unsubscribe, which you can do through the link in any email. When we no longer need information, we delete it or make it anonymous.

Your privacy rights

No matter where you live, you can ask us to:

  • Tell you what personal information we have about you
  • Give you a copy of it
  • Correct anything that's inaccurate
  • Delete your information
  • Stop sending you marketing emails

Residents of Connecticut, California, and other states with privacy laws may have additional rights under those laws, including the right to opt out of the sale of personal information or targeted advertising. Since we don't sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising, there's nothing to opt out of, but you're welcome to contact us with any request.

To make a request, email us at [EMAIL ADDRESS]. We'll confirm your identity, respond within 45 days, and never treat you differently for exercising your rights. If we deny your request, you can appeal by replying to our decision, and we'll respond to your appeal within 60 days. If you're not satisfied with the outcome, you may contact your state attorney general.

Security

We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information, including secure, encrypted connections on our website, password-protected accounts with two-factor authentication, and limited access to client files. No method of storing or sending information online is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security, but we take protecting your information seriously.

Children's privacy

Our website and services are intended for businesses and adults. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our services, tools, or legal requirements change. When we do, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page. If we make a significant change, we'll let current clients and subscribers know by email.
